Allision in Guayaquil

Mon Dec 02 13:23:14 CET 2024 Timsen

On Nov 27, 2024, the 'Trapezitza' allided with the 'Paola' (IMO: 5146689) at the Caraguay dock in Guayaquil and caused significant damage to her bow, disrupting supply routes to Isabela Island in the Galápagos Archipelago. The 'Paola' was docked for loading when the 'Trapezitza', departing from a nearby terminal en route to Matarani, struck it. 600 tons of essential goods, including food supplies, livestock feed, maintenance equipment, eggs, vegetables, and frozen product, which were initially scheduled for transport on the 'Paola', had to be rerouted to the m/v 'Isabela' (Onuscargo) and the m/v 'Vertom Thea' (Transnave). The relevant authorities, including the Governing Council of Galápagos and the Subsecretariat of Ports, are adjusting maritime schedules to ensure timely delivery and prevent shortages in Isabela Island, one of the most remote regions of the archipelago.
