Ship to be lightered ahead of salvage

Mon May 26 12:31:05 CEST 2025 Timsen

The insurance company of the 'Torvang' was now checking with various salvage companies who can take on the task of raising the ship that sank at Hendvågen in Averøy. The cargo of sand on board the vessel must be unloaded before the salvage can begin. Over the weekend of May 24/25, divers, among others, examined the ship, but no cause was yet found for it to start to list and capsize. The ship is meanwhile largely submerged. Torvang has capsized in Hendvågen in Averøy

Mon May 26 09:22:40 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'Torvang' with five crew members on board has capsized in Hendvågen in Averøy and was leaning on the quay onthe morning of May 23, 2025. Two of the crew on board jumped into the water and swam to shore themselves. The other three got onto the quay. The ship was moored at th quay when it listed to port side and suddenly overturned. The cargo hold was full of water. A sludge suction machine has been ordered, and it was hoped that the ship might right itself when it has emptied the hold of water. None of the five crew members were injured after the incident, but they have been given warm and dry clothes. An ambulance was on the way. The Norwegian Coastal Administration took over. Fire boats and the lifeboat 'Bergen Kreds' of the NSSR attended the scene. There were currently no signs of diesel or oil spills. The police were on site and started questioning those involved. Near collision on Moldefjord

Tue Jun 30 21:15:03 CEST 2015 Timsen

The Norwegian Maritime Directorate was investigating an incident in the morning of June 30, 2015, when the "Moldefjord" had to spin 360 degrees around to avoid a collision with the freighter "Torvang" which did not give way. It was tried to make contact with the crew on board the freighter with UHF/VHF and with the ferry whistle, but without success. The ferry had no chance as to turn hard to starboard to avoid a collision. Despite the unexpected turn the ferry on the way from Molde to Vestnes was not delayed. After the arrival the master reported the case.
