Maersk Tankers adds 50,000-dwt GIACINTA to fleet

Thu Mar 26 07:20:26 CET 2015 arnekiel

Maersk Tankers is set to continue its products tanker expansion with the addition of a second hand vessel from Motia Compagnia di Navigazione. The Danish owner is negotiating to purchase the 50,000-dwt GIACINTA (built 2010) and is expected to seal the deal in the coming days. A price of $21.5m has been placed on the tanker, but sources at Maersk Tanker decline to comment on the figure involved. The owner has been focused on the products sector for more than a year after shedding much of its crude fleet. TradeWinds reported on Friday the owner was on the hunt for LR2 newbuildings for 2017 delivery. It also bought four 50,000-dwt medium-range (MR) newbuildings from Horizon Tankers at the end of last year for a reported $34.75m each to replace older tonnage which has been shipped out. GIACINTA was one of the newest vessels in the fleet of Italy’s Motia, which will be reduced to nine vessels. Source : Tradewinds
