Two ships grounded in Rumst

Sun May 25 15:17:33 CEST 2025 Timsen

In Rumst, at the conjunction of the Nete and the Rupel, the 'Swette' enroute from Antwerp to Terneuzen, and the 'Nautica' (MMSI: 205500090) en route from Roeselare to Sète, have become stuck due to the low water level on May 22, 2025. The maritime police have been informed of the incident. One of the ships got completely stuck in the mud, while the other got stuck at the back. The two ships were located at the Veerstraat. A few years ago, the municipal authorities submitted a motion to the Flemish Waterway to ask for a buoy to be provided to mark the sandbank, but it did not respond to that. Grounded barges refloated

Sun May 25 15:11:03 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'Swette' and 'Nautica' (MMSI: 205500090), which had grounded at Rumst, at the confluence of the Nete and the Rupel, on May 22, 2025, were refloated at high tide- No one was injured in the incident. The maritime police were called and shipping traffic on the Rupel was halted. The Vlaamse Waterweg acknowledged that in addition to very low water, sedimentation may also have played a role in the accident on the tidal river.
