Fire in engine room
On Feb 16, 2020, at 5 p.m. a fire broke out aboard the 'Suzzy' which was being drydocked at a shipyard Tuzla for maintenance. The fire raged in the accommodation block, superstructure and pertinent spaces. The crew carried out the initial fire extinguishing operation, assisted by the shipyard duty fire-fighting team. The 15 crew members were then evacuated, no one was injured. Subsequently, the local fire brigade teams attended the incident scene. It took several hours for the alerted fire fighters to gain control of the fire. No injuries were reported, but damage was significant. The fire was put out only during the late evening. The cooling operation lasted until midnight. A slight pollution has been noted around the vessel. A damage survey has been commenced by Owners Superintendent, Class surveyor and shipyard technical team in order to ascertain the extent of damage together with deformed systems due to fire. Repairs were commenced based on the technical inspection's further results. On June 5 it was reported that the vessel has now been sold to scrapyard, after the repair works were suspended, considering age of the vessel and repair expenses. The tug 'Yumurtalik' (IMO: 7531761) was towing the vessel from Tuzla to Aliaga. ETA June 6. Russian report with photo: https://www.maritime.bg/63325-2/
