Tanker detained for illegal docking

Wed Oct 02 13:12:12 CEST 2019 Timsen

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency has detained the "Marios G" in Panama for suspected illegal docking in the East Permatang waters near Kota Tinggi on Oct 1, 2019, at 4 p.m. 11 miles east of Tanjung Penawar. The crew of 24 was detained after failing to obtain any informed consent from the Director of the Navy. Further scrutiny revealed that the vessel had yet to appoint a local shipping agent to seek the approval of the Director of the Navy. The case is being investigated under Section 491B (1) (I) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 and could be fined not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment for not more than two years or both if convicted.
