Fishing vessel distressed in ice
The "Sunstar" issued a distress signal in the night of Dec 18, 2015, being stuck in heavy ice in the Antarctic, in pos. 71N 178W, about 1500 miles south of the South Island of New Zealand. Initially, the 862-ton ship "Costa" from the same Korean company tried to tow the stranded ship out of the ice but failed in its efforts to rescue the ship. The Korean icebreaker "Araon" (IMO: 9490935) was sent to the distressed vessel and reached it on Dec 19 in the morning. Only five crew of the 39 crew members were remaining on board at that time, the rest evacuated to a fishing vessel which was nearby. The "Sunstar" was freed from ice and was underway again in the afternoon to a safe area. Report with photo: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2015/12/116_193561.html
