Mon May 18 09:30:05 CEST 2020 Timsen

On May 17, 2020, the 'Stolt Apal' was attacked and shot upon by pirates in Aden Bay Northeast of Bosaso, Puntland. The attack evolved into a firefight between the pirates and armed guards on board. The tanker was located 75 miles south of Yemen when two motorboats approached it at high speed. Armed guards aboard the ship fired several warning shots at the pirates who answered the fire. After a brief firefight, the pirates retreated, failing to penetrate the vessel. No one aboard the 'Stolt' Apal was injured in the attack. It was not known if any of the six attacking pirates were hit. After the attack, the tanker continued the voyage from El Jubayul towards the Suez Canal.
