Bulkcarrier assisted in Istanbul Strait

Wed Sep 23 20:35:42 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'E.R. Bayonne' reduced its speed while transiting the Istanbul Strait in northern direction off Kanlica, Beykoz, on Sep 23, 2020, at 08.20 a.m. due to strong currents and requested additional tug assistance. The ship was assisted by the tugs 'Kurtarma 5' and 'Kurtarma 11'. It completed the transit and was moored at Istanbul outer anchorage in pos. 41° 17.35' N 029° 1.41' E. Ship traffic in the Bosporus was released again at 12.55 p.m. The vessel was not allowed to proceed its voyage as a result of an alleged main engine problem. Meanwhile, a Class surveyor has attended the vessel and issued a certificate confirming the vessel is fully operational with main engines, propulsion system, steering, and navigational equipment all tested and working in good order. The 'E.R. Bayonne' was en route from Narvik to Eregli. As of Sep 25 it remained stationary at the northern entrance of Istanbul Strait, awaiting clearance from authorities to continue its voyage.
