Car carrier broke lose in storm

Thu Oct 05 13:39:14 CEST 2017 Timsen

In the storm Xavier the moorings of the "Splendid Ace" at the New Ems Pier in Emden broke in the foremidday of Oct 5, 2017, and the ship drifted away from its berth. The tugs "Finn" (MMSI: 211215550), "Friedrich Wessels" (IMO: 7525205), "Stier" (IMO: 8912209) and "Waterstroom" (IMO: 9428047) rushed to assist and get the vehicles carrier which was adrift perpendicular to the fairway of the Ems and had dropped its anchors, back under control. At 1.50 p.m. the ship was back at the Ems Quay, while three of the tugs kept pushing until the evening hours. The scheduled departure from Emden was postponed to Oct 8 now. In the foremidday of Oct 6 the tugs "Friedrich Wessels", "Finn" and "Waterstraat" had still secured the ship, the latter was meanwhile called off to Delfzijl. The "Splendid Ace" finally departed from Emden on Oct 9 at 4.30 p.m., bound to Davisville, ETA Oct 19.
