Engine failure in Dardanelles Strait

On July 14, 2025, at around 11 p.m. UTC, the 'Spanaco Progress', en route from Tarragona to Kocaeli, suffered an engine failure off the Gallipoli coast during the transit of the Dardanelles Strait (Lat. 40.4085 Lng. 26.7232)(. The two tugs 'Kurtarma 3' (IMO:: 9335939) and 'Kurtarma 19' (IMO: 9995129) as well as a pilot were immediately called to assist. The 'Kurtarma 19' took the ship in tow at around 11.40 p.m. and pulled it to the Şevketiye Anchorage Area at a speed of about four knots under the coordination of the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center. The ship was moored in pos. 40° 25' N 026° 50' E on July 15 atr around 1 a.m., where it remained stationary since. Video: https://x.com/i/status/1945009907377349048

Disabled bulkcarrier towed to Brest

After spending the last weekend at anchor off the Belle-Ile where the crew tried to repair a propulsion damage, the "Spanaco Progress" was towed to Brest in the afternoon of March 19, 2019, by the tug "Amber II" where the tugs "Clairvoyant" and "Robuste" took over and pulled it to No. 4 repair dock of the CIB Brest Shipyard at 4.30 p.m., where technicians of the the Damen Shipyard will repair the ship's engine, a seven-cylinder STX MAN with a power of 3,807 horsepower. Spare parts were sent by the engine manufacturer. The freighter had a cargo of 6,000 tons of quartz on board and had sailed from Port Said on Feb 9. It left Brest again on April 4 at 5 p.m. and headed towards the English Channel.
