Medevac on the Rhine at Rüdesheim

In the evening of Oct 9, 2013, at 9.55 p.m. the "Sorrento" requested medical assistance by the traffic control Oberwesel after the father of the master, aged 81, suffered cardiac problems and needed medical treatment. The ship was sailing downstream at river km 511 near Eltville. The water police Wiesbaden transferred a doctor from Eltville to the ship. After having received first aid, the patient was disembarked at Rüdesheim and transferred to the Horst-Schmidt-hospital Wiesbaden by an ambulance.

SORRENTO

In the afternoon of May 13, 2011, the fully loaded "Sorrento" ran aground on the Rhine between the Deuzt and Severin bridge due to a water level of only 1,2 metres, the "Sorrento" having a draught of 1,3 metres. An attempt to pull the vessel off failed. Only at 10.30 p.m. another attempt had more success, and the vessel proceeded to Riehl.
