Freighter got stuck off Les Sables-d'Olonne

Fri Dec 20 09:52:06 CET 2019 Timsen

In Les Sables-d'Olonne the Atlantic Miniplon 'Scaphandre' of Atlantique Scaphandre and other tugboats assisted the 'Arklow Fortune' after it had got in great difficultiess in the approach channel on Dec 19, 2019, at 9.30 a.m. upon its arrival from Gijón. The freighter had got stuck on the embankment of the breakwater despite pilot assistance after it was suddenly pushed to the left by strong wind gusts with the bow turning towards the Chaume due to the strong surge and high swell. Within one hour the ship could be refloated and safely berthed, but suffered some damage in the grounding. It arrived in La Coruna on Dec 25 at 6.20 a.m. and left port again on Dec 26 at 5.30 p.m., headed to Thameshaven with an ETA as of Dec 1, 2020.
