Allision in Swanage

Mon Apr 30 09:57:01 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Solent Scene" allided with the Swanage pier after a gearbox failure and became stuck on Apr 28, 2018, at 10.40 a.m. with 34 passengers on board. Assistance was rendered by the dive boat "Spike" to assist the vessel alongside. The skipper has spoken to the ship owner, and the vessel was to remain at Swanage Pier, until authorised to move again. The police attended to breathalise the skipper routinely. An engineer arrived at the incident scene and assessed the situation. The vessel's gear box was stuck in one position and the skipper could not move it and the incident was inevitable. The engineer carried out new tests and was content. The "Solent Scene" then sailed back to Poole, arriving there on Apr 29.

SOLENT SCENE

Sun Aug 08 13:00:26 CEST 2010 Timsen

Portland Coastguard coordinated the rescue of 37 people from the passenger vessel "Solent Scene" after it drifted aground near Old Harry Rocks, Dorset, whilst on a trip from Poole for a tour around the rocks on Aug 7, 2010. The Swanage RNLI All Weather and Inshore Lifeboat and Poole RNLI All Weather Lifeboat were sent to the scene. All passengers were transferred to a RNLI lifeboat to the nearby passenger vessel Bournemouth Belle who took them to Swanage Pier where they were met by Coastguard Rescue Officers from the Swanage team. None of the passengers needed medical attention and they were transferred back to Poole Quay. The "Solent Scene" was expected to re-float before 5.30 p.m, as the tide came in. A MCA surveyor was to inspect the vessel before it returned to service.
