Attack of skiff foiled

The "Sofia" was attacked in the Gulf of Guinea on Mar 9, 2017, at 8 a.m. in position 03 20N 004 29E about 120 miles southwest of Brass, Bayelsa. The bulkcarrier en route from Lagos to Owendo, Libreville. Seven persons armed with guns in a skiff approached and fired upon the ship which increased speed and commenced evasive maneuvers. All non-essential crew retreated to the citadel. After 40 minutes, the skiffs aborted the attack and moved away. The ship sustained some damages due to the firing. In the evening of March 9,the vessel was moored at Owendo anchorage.

Grounding off Paranagua

Wed Jun 24 09:12:13 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Sofia" ran aground in the early morning of June 23, 2015, while leaving the port of Paranagua in the Paranagua Bay north of Pontal do Sul. The ship was en route to Santos. The grounding was caused by a mechanical failure. The vessel was refloated two hours later and taken to Paranagua outer roads where it anchored.
