Lifeboat refloated grounded excursion boat
On Aug 23, 2024, at 10:24 p.m., the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Fire and Rescue Operational Center (CODIS 64) was alerted by the 'L'Hendayais II' that they were about to run aground on the beach at Hendaye, while the boat was at the entrance to the port. The CROSS Etel initiated a rescue operation, involving the 'SNS 094 - Pierre Loti II' from the SNSM station Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the 'SNS 149 - Bidasoa' from the SNSM station in Hendaye and firefighters to the scene. At 11:05 p.m., the 35 passengers of the grounded ship as well as the three sailors were evacuated and taken care of on the beach. There were no injuries. On Aug 24 the CROSS Etel deployed the 'SNS 149 - Bidasoa' and assistance vehicles from the firefighters. Taking advantage of the high tide, the ship was gradually refloated. The 'SNS 149' towed the ship to an anchorage in the Bay of Fontarabie at 7:39 a.m. No pollution was reported.
