Ferry refloated

The "Skorpios II" was successfull refloated with the rising Tide and able to maintain its normal tourist services starting on Feb 7 at noon after ist grouding 14 kilometers south of Puerto Montt underway to Castro on Feb 5. The ship entered the port of Puerto Montt on Feb 6 at 2 a.m. and it was found out it was not damaged. An investigation was launched to ensure that cases like this do not happen again. 89 passengers evacuated from grounded ship

On Feb 5, 2015, at 6.20 a.m. the "Skorpios II" with 89 passengers and a crew of 31 on board ran aground in the area of Maillén in Punta Santo Domingo, 14 kilometers southwest of Puerto Montt. At 6.45 a.m. the Maritime Authority was alerted and the 5th Naval District informed accordingly. The passengers, mostly foreigners, were transferred onto the Chilean patrol boat "Micalvi" around 3 p.m. and taken to the Navy Pier in Tenglo aboard the patrol boat "Contramaestre Micalvi". Also the patrol boat "Defender" from Arcángel was dispatched. A Super Puma helicopter and a Skymaster aircraft were monitoring the site. The vssel was on a sightseeing trip around the fjords and the San Rafael Glacier. No injures, no spill reported. The vessel which was high and dry on the rocky shore was expected to be refloated with the high tide.
