Barge capsized in New Bedford

A Tisbury Towing and Transportation barge capsized in the afternoon of Nov 26, 2018, in New Bedford Harbor, seriously injuring one man. The barge that capsized was one of two rafted together. The vessel turned over north of the Route 6 Swing Bridge” between 1:30 and 2 p.m. The barge was taking on sand and was tied to a bulkhead with the "Sirius" nearby. The victim was taken by the New Bedford Marine Unit to Pier 3 and placed in an ambulance. The Coast Guard did not launch a vessel, because local assets had already responded. It did issue a hazard to navigation warning for a partially submerged barge. The barge was quickly moved out of normal vessel paths.
