Tanker threatened by drifting barge
On Jan 21, 2025, an incident involving the barge 'Seno Hidayat VII', carrying coal cargo and towed by the tug 'Seno Hidayat VI' (MMSI: 525024204), was reported near the 'Sinar Masela', which was moored close to Gresik in the Java Sea in pos. 07° 06' S 112° 40' E. Initial information came from the pilot of the tanker, who reported that the barge was tilting and drifting closer to the tanker’s position. Ther barge with a crew of 10 persons had suffered a leakage, causing a list to port side. Upon receiving the report, the VTS Surabaya promptly coordinated with KSOP Gresik and relevant parties to handle the situation. The water inside the barge was pumped out to reduce the list. The resonse was coordinated by pilots, KSOP officers, and the Marine Command Center (MCC). Messages to vessels in the vicinity of the incident were broadcast. The VTS Surabaya maintained monitoring through maritime communication channels. The incident was being managed by the ship’s agent, the PT Elanor Pradana Shipping, in collaboration with maritime authorities to ensure effective mitigation efforts. The situation was brought under control with no casualties or hazardous material spills reported. The mitigation efforts were expected to stabilize the barge, allowing it to resume operations soon.
