Trial against three responsible for allision started three years after accident
About three years after an excavator transported on the deck of the 'Somone' damaged a power line, the trial against the captain and two pilots has begun on Jan 9, 2023. The convoy had loaded an excavator, and the 63-meter-high boom hit a 110-kilovolt high-voltage line which stretched across the water just before the Rethe bascule bridge and severed six cables. The power went out in the area for hours. Stromnetz Hamburg sued those responsible at a civil chamber of the district court; the value in dispute is 368,000 Euros. The defendants had previously rejected a penalty order to end the proceedings without a hearing. The public prosecutor accuses the trio of failing collectively on Jan 7, 2020. by not checking the overall height of the excavator with its boom before starting the journey, and accused the three of negligently endangering shipping traffic.
