Scrapped at Kampen 01/2024

Disabled fishing vessel towed to Breskens

Wed Sep 16 09:43:13 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Sep 15, 2015, at 3.54 a.m. the lifeboat "Zeemannshoop" of the KNRM-station Breskens was called to assist the "Silverpit - Z 80" to Breskens. The vessel had suffered propulsion problems in the North Sea near the Belgian border. The propeller had been obstructed and the ship was adrift north of the main fairway. The crew asked the lifeboat to remain on standby to ensure that the ship would not drift into the fairway. At the same time they consulted with fellow fishermen and Multraship salvors for towing capabilities. The "Zeemanshoop" was on scene 30 minutes after the alert. The fishing vessel "Spes Nova - N57" also headed to the "Silverpit" and took the ship in tow. Once underway, it appeared that everything was under control, and the "Zeemanshoop" returned to its station. About four hours later the convoy was approaching Breskens, but strong currents and winds of six Beaufort made it dangerous for the cutters to enter port and therefore again asked the lifeboat to assist at 8.56 a.m. Under the guidance of the "Zeemanshoop" the convoy sailed into the port where the "Silverpit" was safely berthed with the help of the lifeboat.
