2nd engineer went missing

Mon Jun 22 10:09:50 CEST 2020 Timsen

The Indian national Sambit Majumder, second engineer on the 'Serengeti', went missing on June 16, 2020, while the ship was in the South China Sea. On February 4th he had left home to jointhe tanker. In the evening of June 16 he had dinner with other members of the crew around 8 p.m. before retiring to his cabin. Crew members saw Sambit in his cabin even after that but he did not turn up for breakfast on June 17. An alert was sounded a little later when he did not turn up in the engine room at 10 a.m. Sambit’s phone was found in his cabin, but there was no trace of him on board the ship. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres in Hong Kong and the Philippines have called off the search operation as 72 hours had passed since his disappearance. His four-month contract was over but he was still working as there were restrictions on returning home.
