Transmed takes Nisshin kamsarmax trio

Sun Nov 20 11:43:58 CET 2016 arnekiel

Nisshin Shipping’s rapid fleet pullback continues apace. Having put a trio of kamsarmaxes in the shop window a few weeks back the Japanese owner has now concluded a deal with Greece’s Transmed to sell all three en bloc. Brokers report the three sister ships – Mangan Trader I, Mangan Trader II and Mangan Trader III – were sold for $16.75m each. The ships – all built at Hyundai Samho in 2013 with an LOA of 235 m – are the latest in Nisshin’s dramatic scaling back of its dry bulk fleet. Nisshin ranks in the top five sellers of dry bulk tonnage so far this year.

Collision off Ostend

Thu Aug 06 09:36:52 CEST 2015 Timsen

In the afternoon of Aug 5, 2015, the tank m/v "Alkiviadis" was in collision with the "Mangan Trader II" about 17 miles NW of Ostend. The "Alkiviadis" had come from Tallinn and was at anchor waiting for order to sail to Antwerp. The "Mangan Trader II" was proceeding towards the Western Scheldt, bound for Ghent. The reason for the collision was failure in the steering gear of the bulk carrier. The "Alkiviadis" sufffered breach above the water line in one of the ballast tanks. The "Mangan Trader 2" was detained for a while after collision and after inspection was released to resume its voyage. The "Mangan Trader II" reached Terneuzen on Aug 6 at 3 a.m. and berthed in Ghent at 7 a.m. The "Alkiviadis" remained at anchor for further repairs of the breach and later resumed the voyage. She berthed in dock 6 in Antwerp on Aug 5 at 5 a.m.
