Inspectors found ship overloaded
On Sep 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the water police in the port of Wilhelmshaven inspected the 'Selene Prahm' to ensure compliance with its loading conditions. There were indications that the vessel, loaded with grit, had taken on too much cargo. Based on the measured draft, an overload of approximately 57 tons of grit was detected on board. Administrative offense proceedings have been initiated against the 40-year-old cargo officer in charge. Investigations into possible profit skimming were being coordinated with the responsible department. The ship had arrived from Rekefjord on Aug 31. It left Wilhelmshaven again on Sep 4 on the return trip with an ETA as of Sep 6.
Grounding off Kiel
Enroute Terneuzen-Sanders with a cargo of 2400 tons fertilizer the "Selene Prahm" ran aground in the Kiel Sound at buoy 6 off Laboe in the afternoon of Feb 27, 2012, after it suffered rudder problems and suddenly veered to starboard while heading for the open sea. The multi purpose ship "Scharhörn" and the tug "Holtenau" were called for assistance after attempts to refloat with own power had failed. At 9 p.m. the "Holtenau" had pulled the ship off the sandbar and towed itback to the Scheer Port in Kiel where it berthed half an hour later and investigations of the water police and surveys by technicians started. The ship was allowed to resume its voyage short past noon on Feb 28. German report with photo: http://www.kn-online.de/Lokales/Ploen/Frachter-lief-vor-Laboe-auf-Grund
