Two men facing assault and burglary on yacht in Kinsale

Tue Jun 25 11:26:27 CEST 2024 Timsen

Two men were facing assault and burglary charges after alleged incidents on the 'Scout' in Kinsale. At the Bandon District Court, Judge James McNulty granted both men bail with conditions, and they had to attend court again on June 24, 2024. They appeared in court on assault and burglary charges for offences that were alleged to have occurred on board the superyacht on the morning of June 21. Selvin Foley, aged 21, of Coach House, Eastern Road, Kinsale, and Matthew Kiely, aged 22, of St. Elkins Crescent, Kinsale both appeared before Judge James McNulty at Bandon District Court. It was alleged the two men boarded the vessel at the Castlepark Marina on more than one occasion with the intention to steal. They boarded the yacht, on which up to 15 crew and a number of guests were onboard at the time, and searched the vessel, stole a quantity of alcohol and then left and proceeded to drink it when they got to shore. The two returned to the ship at around 4 a.m. and were walking about on board when the captain woke up and confronted them. They assaulted the captain, but were then apprehended by crew members who detained them until gardaí arrived. There was no objection to bail for Mr Kiely but gardaí did object to bail for Mr Foley as he was currently on bail for an unrelated serious offence. Mr. Kiely was released on bail on condition he return to his father’s house in Tipperary immediately, observe a curfew from 9 .p.m to 8 a.m. daily, and sign on three times a week at Cahir Garda Station. that he does not cross the new bridge in Kinsale, that he resides at his father’s house in Kinsale, that he observes a curfew from 9pm to 7am, and that he signs in daily at Kinsale Garda Station. Both men were released on their own bond of €1,000 and remanded on bail to appear again at Bandon District Court on July 12.
