Schaprode's amok ride
The "Schaprode" suffered a failure of the remote engine control on Nov 9, 2011, when approaching Neuendorf port on Hiddensee island. The ship entered the port with full speed astern and sank one yacht and two motor boats. The power line for the port lighting was damaged too. The passengers remained uninjured. The port had to be closed for two hours. The damage was assessed to be around 60000 Euro.
