Tank barge ran onto breakwater in Terneuzen
The "Scaldis", 3801 ts (EU-No.: 06004102), being loaded with 2600 tons of petroleum products, ran aground on Feb 14, 2017, at 8.15 p.m. on the northern breakwater off Terneuzen. A first attempt to pull the tanker off with the alerted tugs "Multratug 9" and "Braakman" failed. Because by the outgoing tide there was the fear that the ship would break, and all emergency services were placed on alert. At 8:30 p.m. the tugs managed to pull the ship off which was berthed at the middle lock then. Rijkswaterstaat inspected the ship and found no leaks. The tanker was underway from Hansweert towards the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.
