Bottom touch in attempt to avoid collision with river cruise ship
On June 2, 2015, at 7 p.m. the "Sandra W", 3567 ts (EU-No.: 02335125), allided with a fairway buoy and touched the bottom of the Rhine at river km 496,7 at Mainz - Kostheim in an attempt to avoid a collision with the Dutch 110-m-river cruise ship "River Ambassador" (EU-No.: 2320666), which was enroute from Mannheim to Nuremberg. The latter was sailing downstream and was turning to starboard after having passed the railway bridge in Mainz without having communicated with the "Sandra W", which was entering the Main at that time. Only an emergency manoever of the barge could keep it away from the "River Ambassador". Both ships were able to continue their voyage. The "Sandra W" was underway from Tolkamer to Budapest, ETA June 13.
