Yacht investigated for damaging coral reef at UNESCO World Heritage Site
The 'Samadhi', owned by the billionaire American hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb, was being investigated by authorities in Belize, after a video emerged showing the yacht damaging a protected coral reef when dropping its anchor at the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, a popular diving site famous for a giant marine sinkhole called the Great Blue Hole, on Feb 9. 2020. Daniel Loeb was not on it at the time. He leases it out on charter, with prices starting at $360,000 a week. The incident came to light after a video was posted online showing the vessel’s anchor wrapped around live corals at the UNESO World Heritage site.
