Grounded ship sank off Myanmar
The "San Ratulangi" which on Aug 27 had drifted ashore seven off Thongwa in the Gulf of Mataban, Myanmar, being under tow to a shipbreaking yard, sank on Oct 3. The wreck was resting on the bottom with a list to starboard side and part of the accomodation block and the hull still showing above the water. The maritime Authorities ordered a wreck removal from shipowner. The ship had been sold to PT Mandara Putra Bajatama and then re-sold to SMIT Salvage Singapore to be dismantled at a Bangladesh shibreaking yard. Navy hired salvors to refloat grounded vessel
After the unmanned "Sam Ratulangi" ran aground in bad weather on Aug 27 in the Gulf of Martaban, the Myanamar Navy tried to pull her out without any success. The Navy has hired another party to refloat the grounded vessel now.
Expert team sent to Myanmar for assessments
The "Sam Ratulangi" was to be dealt with in accordance with the law. Crew members of tug "Independence" which had been towing the vessel, were being questioned, to determine whether the incident was intentional or accidental. The outcome of the questioning will be submitted to the office of the Union Attorney General for further action. A Singapore based insurance company of the vessel sent a team of experts to Myanmar on Sep 7 for conducting assessments.
