Yacht heavily damaged in collision

Fri May 20 09:49:57 CEST 2016 Timsen

On May 19, 2016, at 4.20 p.m. the "Sagittarius" was in collision with the sailing yacht "Mytilus" near l/h Kalkgrund. Aboard the "Mytilus" was a crew of 10, aboard the "Sagittarius" two. Both ships suffered severe water ingress, and a mayday call was received by the MRCC Bremen which dispatched the lifeboats "Nis Randers" and "Jens Füerschip" to the site. Also the police boat "Staberhuk", the fire fighting vessel "Kiel" and other craft which were nearby attended. First on scene was the Dutch charter klipper "Artemis" which secured the heavily damaged "Sagittarius" until the lifeboats reached the scene and reduced the ingress of water with a leak sail. Dewatering pumps were dropped off on both boats. The "Nis Randers" took the "Sagittarius" in tow to Flensburg, while the "Mytilus“ was escorted by the "Jens Füerschip". On scene were calm seas and Eastern winds of two Beaufort.
