The Danube was closed for ship traffic at Niederalteich until the evening May 6 due to the salvage of the "Rubiships IV". Salvagers of Dolmarin from Deggendorf unloaded 882 tons of steel tubes, reducing the ship's draught. But there still had to be done some dredging because sand had accumulated around the hull. The ship had run aground on Apr 23, 2011, between Deggendorf and Passau. Due to the extremely low water level of 2,2 metres the master had slowed down speed, but 400 meters off the ferry Niederalteich currents pushed the ship off course at river km 2275.6 km and it got stuck on a sandbar. Since the grounding other shipping was passing slowly.

On May 1, 2011, the "Rubiship IV" ran aground near Niederalteich on the Danube, km 2276. The ship got stuck between two groynes in a 45-degree-angle. Ship traffic is slowed at the accident site.
