Bulk carrier saved crews of two yachts
On May 30, 2022, the JRCC Cabo Verde in collaboration with the National Center coordinated an SAR operation after the yachts 'Julios' with three crew members on board and the 'Calisto' with two crew members on board, both sailing from Cape Verde to Las Palmas, collided in the morning 245 nautical miles north of Cabo Verde when the latter tried to assist the "Calisto" following a breakdown. The "Julios", sank after the collision, and the crew abandoned ship onto a life raft. The "Chris", en route from itacoatiara to Las Palmas, was mobilized and rescued all five crew members of both yachts. She then continued the voyage to Las Palmas with an ETA as of June 5.
Grounding on Paraná River
The 'Chris', en route from Sao Francisco do Sul to Recalada, ran aground on the Paraná River at kilomter mark 174 on Aug 7, 2021, at 1 p.m. The grounded ship was obstructing navigation. On Aug 7 it could be refloated at 3.40 a.m., assisted by the tugs 'Virador' and 'Zonda' As per instructions of the Argentinian Coast Guard, the vessel proceeded to kilometer mark 238 where it dropped anchor for the formal procedures and inspections. The Coast Guard has authorized up/down river navigation at 04.10 a.m.
Disabled bulkcarrier moored off Koper
The 'Christos Theo' which had run aground during the transit of the Suez Canal enroute from Kaoshiung on Dec 29, 2020, was towed to Koper roads on Feb 10. After its arrival, four to five tugs pulled it to Luka Koper in order to discharge its cargo of steel coils on Feb 12. After completion of discharging operation, the vessel will be towed to the ports of Marghera and Ravenna to discharge the remaining cargo. As the vessel has damages to the rudder, it has to be drydocked for repairs. As of Feb 15, the ship was moored on Koper Anchorage in pos. 45° 34.27' N 013° 41.07' E with the tug 'EDT Andromeda' (IMO: 9260328) attending.
