MAIB report on collision published

Fri Nov 02 10:01:01 CET 2018 Timsen

On Oct 31 the MAIB published a report on the accident of the "Celtic Spirit" which had been dragging its anchor during heavy weather on March 1 and subsequently was in collision with the seismographic research vessel "Atlantic Explorer" and the cargo m/v "Celtic Warrior" on the River Humber. The watchkeeper did not immediately identify this and the "Celtic Spirit" subsequently collided with the two anchored ships. All three vessels sustained shell plate damage, but there were no injuries and no pollution. The report highlighted the importance of ensuring taking tidal and environmental conditions fully into account, when going to anchor and ensuring that the frequency and accuracy of position monitoring is commensurate with the conditions experienced.

Celtic Spirit waiting for spare parts in Hull

Wed Mar 21 19:13:04 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Celtic Spirit" on March 20 has principally completed the main repairs to the damage she sustained during the collision that occurred in the Hawke anchorage in the Humber estuary. However, she was currently waiting for spare parts for her windlass motor which have to come from the USA and as such her departure will be delayed for at least another week. Once the windlass is operational she will be able to pick-up her new replacement, anchor & cable, along with replacing the other anchor as previously required due to damage to the crown.
