Sail training ship suffered propulsion trouble

Tue Sep 12 19:08:13 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Queen Galadriel' lost propulsion in Cowes after leaving the Shepards Marina on Sep 10, 2023, at 2.30 p.m. The Cowes RNLI lifeboat joined in a combined effort to prevent the vessel from causing a potentially serious incident in crowded harbour. The lifeboat was returning from a safety patrol at the start off Cowes of the Ocean Globe Race when the alarm was raised. An approaching Red Funnel car ferry was warned of the problem, while the lifeboat, together with a harbour launch and other craft, rushed to the vessel's aid. They then proceeded to nudge and tow the sail training vessel, until it could be safely brought alongside the outside pontoon of the Cowes Yacht Marina. The same afternoon the vessel sailed to Gosport, where it berthed at 7 p.m. Report with photos: https://onthewight.com/training-vessel-towed-to-safety-in-team-effort-at-crowded-cowes-marina/
