Captain rescued from ship off Cyprus

Sat Dec 14 10:02:24 CET 2013 arnekiel

A police helicopter braved difficult weather conditions on Friday to airlift a critically-ill Syrian captain from his ship off the southern coast of Cyprus to Limassol hospital. The Defence Ministry said that the rescue centre in Larnaca received an emergency call through Radio Cyprus from the commercial vessel Μ/V JAWDAT M that was sailing 30 nautical miles south of Limassol. The first mate said the captain was in a comatose condition, possibly as a result of a heart attack and asked for him to be airlifted to a Cyprus hospital. The police helicopter Achilleas was sent to the ship in a mission that was described as high risk because of strong winds and extreme weather conditions. The patient, aged 49, was flown in a very critical condition to Limassol hospital. According to the latest report, his condition is described as stable. http://incyprus.philenews.com/en-gb/Blogs/4324/38588/captain-rescued-from-ship-off-cyprus
