Container ship stuck under bridge
In the morning of July 31, 2012, at 7.30 a.m. the "Mer-Green" allided with a brige of the A 59 spanning the Wilhelmina Canal in Zwijndrecht near Oosterhout. The container cargo got stuck underneath the bridge. The ballast water tanks of the vessel were filled and the level of the canal lowered in order to free the ship. One empty container fell into the water. The A59 had to be closed in the direction of Den Bosch. The master had tried to pass the right side while heading toward Amer instead of taking the higher left side of the viaduct.
