Dsiabled ship towed to safety amid gale force winds
A Vietnamese naval shhip has successfully assisted the 'Petrolimex 11' off Khanh Hoa, towing it to safety with 25 crew members on board on Jan 2, 2025. The rescue operation was led by the 918th Flotilla of the 189th Submarine Brigade. The ship was en route from Malaysia to Hon Gai Port in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, when it suffered an engine failure on Jan 1, while passing through the waters off Khanh Hoa, rendering it inoperable. The vessel drifted approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of Cam Ranh Bay. The captain issued a distress signal, seeking urgent assistance. Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 189th Submarine Brigade, deployed the rescue ship 991 of the 918th Flotilla to the scene. Despite ough seas with waves reaching heights of 6 to 7 meters, it reached the casualy, and first medical aid was provided to the crew. The rescuers then established a towing connection o the 'Petrolimex 11' and pulled it to a designated anchorage near Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province, nd it was safely moored in pos. 11° 18' N 108° 55' E.
