Drug drop off monitored by patrol boat

Tue Oct 31 21:01:11 CET 2023 Timsen

On Oct 24, 2023, the ' Olivia I' was closely monitored by Spanish law enforcement agencies after they were tipped on possible cocaine drop from the ship, which was to pass Gibraltar, en route from Cartagena. A patrol boat spotted and trailed behind the ship off Ceuta, until officers saw and filmed a drop-off, made in a rather unusual manner. Two stowaways had been hiding in a container, and when the ship approached the drop-off position, they threw bales with cocaine over board and jumped into the water themselves, to be picked up by land accomplices. They have been picked up together with the drug bales by the patrol boat instead. The 'Olivia I' was taken to Algeciras and held in port until afternoon Oct 25, when she resumed thr scheduled voyage to Malta and on to Genova with an ETA as of Oct 31.
