Dredger assisted in rescue of workers from burning rig
The US Coast Guard rescued 9 people on Feb 24, 20022, from the oil rig 'Pride Wisconsin' (IMO: 8752142), which was on fire near Sabine Pass, Texas. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a notification at 12:51 p.m. from the 'Ohio' that the mobile offshore drilling unit was ablaze in Sabine Pass with nine people aboard. They issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched 45 ft-boat of the Coast Guard Station Sabine Pass and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter of the Air Station Houston to assist. The Port Arthur Fire Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also responded, all under the coordination of the Sector Houston-Galveston commander center personnel. The Dolphin arrived on-scene, lowered a rescue swimmer and began hoisting the rig workers. They were transported to a nearby rig which was accessible by land allowing the rescued to meet with emergency medical services personnel onshore. No injuries were reported and there were no signs of pollution at this time. The Port Arthur Fire Department was maintaining the scene until they can confirm that the fire has burned itself out. The cause of the incident was under investigation. Report with photo: https://coastguardnews.com/coast-guard-rescues-9-from-rig-on-fire-near-sabine-pass-texas/2022/02/24/
