Investigation into ship loss released

Sun Feb 07 14:06:14 CET 2021 Timsen

The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) has released their findings from the investigation regarding the sinking of the 'Nur Allya' which had sunk on Aug 20, 2019., due to overloading and the nickle ore liquefying. The NTSC reported that the incident lasted for about 30 minutes, and the crew was not able to save themselves and sank along with the ship and its cargo. According to the NTSC, the shipwreck lies on the seabed with an estimated depth of more than 500 metres and cannot be salvaged. Local authorities apologized for the delay in completing the investigation.

Sun Jul 26 19:51:08 CEST 2020 Timsen

The search for the missing 'Nur Allya' was resumed on July 11, 2020, by the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology, the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) and the owner of the vessel. The maritime survey was carried out by the research vessel 'Baruna Jaya IV' which is equipped with several advanced equipment such as the multibeam echosounder (MBES), to possibly locate the vessel, if it had sunk. If nothing comes up, the search will end on July 26. The resumption of the search for the missing vessel, which initially lost contact on August 20, 2019, was done after the related agencies coordinated with each other last month.
