Trawler adrift off Rattray Head
On April 23, 2021, at 10 p.m. the Peterhead RNLI was tasked by the HM Coastguard to assist the 'North Star' which had reported a rudder failure 3,4 miles East of Rattray Head in pos. 57 30 17N, 001 46 33W. The RNLI Peterhead volunteers’ pagers sounded at 11:08 p.m. The 'Misses Robertson of Kintail' soon departed and made way to the vessels location, which with the tide had already drifted 0.5 miles south from the initial position received. It was decided by Coswain David Weir that given the vessel’s failed rudder, the fact she was already drifting and the lateness of the hour that the lifeboat was the most appropriate vessel to assist her back to the nearest port in order to ensure the safety of all aboard. With RNLI crew safely undertaking the tow, both vessels reached port on April 24 at 1:35 a.m. The tow was then transferred to a port vessel to bring the fishing vessel alongside the harbour walls at 01.35 a.m. A port vessel assisted to get the ship safely to the quay. At 9.40 a.m. the trawler left Peterhead again, headed to Lerwick. Trawler towed to Kinlochbervie
The Lochinver lifeboat was launched on Apr 18, 2017, at around 07:30 a.m. after the "Boy Shane" lost power and went adrift 30 miles north of Butt of Lewis. The Stornoway-based Coastguard helicopter was initially deployed to fly over the fishing boat but was relieved when it was found there was no water ingress and all crew were safe. The RNLI crew from Lochinver were the dispatched and were initially tasked with taking the vessel to Scrabster in Caithness.
