Ship disappeared and found again in Szczecin

Fri Jun 09 21:01:19 CEST 2017 Timsen

In the afternoon of June 7, 2017, a 39-year-old man reported his ship, the "Nordstern", as "missing". The ship had been underway on the Mittelland Canal near Hanover on June 3 when it disappeared from the radar. The ship could no longer be located by GPS. The captain had not appeared in the planned loading location near Magdeburg. The police officers searched for the ship in the international search databases. The water police in Riesa, Wilhelmshaven and Magdeburg provided important information. The ship, being worth about 250,000 Euros, was on the way via the Mittelland Canal and Elbe-Havel-Canal towards the Oder and had also passed through Hohenwarte and Wusterwitz locks. On the basis of this development, the police director Görlitz informed the Polish police via the joint center of Polish-German police cooperation in Swiecko. A police patrol finally discovered the ship on June 8 in Szczecin. The officials checked it and got in touch with the captain. It turned out that there were apparently disputes with the owner, and the captain has simply turned off the location system of the ship. The police informed the owner about the berth of the "Nordstern" and recommended him to resolve the inconsistencies. The prosecutor will decide on the progress of the investigation.
