Houthis allegedly attacked three ships

Mon Jun 10 12:03:28 CEST 2024 Timsen

The Houthi terrorists allegedly targeted the British destroyer HMS 'Diamond', the 'Norderney' and the 'MSC Tavvishi' on June 8. According to the British maritime security company Ambrey, the 'Norederney' was hit by a missile 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden. A second missile was sighted but did not hit the ship. A fire broke out, but was put out. People in small boats in the vicinity had opened fire on the ship during the incident. The captain of the vessel assured that the crew was safe. Damage control work was being carried out. The captain of the vessel reported that there were no injuries, and that the ship is heading towards its next port of destination. The 'MSC Tavvishi' was attacked about 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden and struck by a missile with a subsequent fire onboard.

Disabled freighter towed to Finistère

Sun Oct 20 18:05:23 CEST 2019 Timsen

On Oct 18, 2019, at 2.20 p.m. the French emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon' sailed from Brest, on the order of the Maritime Prefect of the Atlantic, towards the island of Batz to assist the 'Norderney' which had suffered a propulsion failure 10 miles north of the island enroute from Santander to Varberg. As the crew was unable to repair the damage. the shipowner entered into a private contract with the Abeilles company to take the ship to an anchorage in the Bay of Douarnenez. At 7:50 p.m. the towage started, and the convoy arrived at the anchorage in the afternoon of Oct 19. The 'Norderney' was moored in pos. 48° 9.60' N 004° 26.93' W. She has resumed its voyage on Oct 26 and proceeded to Varberg with an ETA as of Oct 29, 5 p.m.

Detention in Tyne

Wed Apr 17 08:57:05 CEST 2013 Timsen

On Mar 08, 2013, the "Norderney" was detained on the Tyne as fifteen deficiencies were marked as ISM, which demonstrate there was objective evidence of a serious failure, or lack of effectiveness of the implementation of the ISM Code. Several fire related deficiencies were identified including fire doors having open penetration along with other doors not closing and latching; the engine room to main deck escape hatch can not be opened; the foam branch cable was tied in place and the emergency pump pressure gauge was not fixed in place. Other deficiencies identified were the rescue boat was attached to the wrong hook; the 10 CM radar was inoperative. The oil water inlet pipe was leaking and water was found in the CO2 room. Insulation was missing in the emergency generator room and electrical locker; floor plates were not secured in the engine room and bow thrusters along with several other spaces. The continuous synopsis record, radio log (diary) and training manuals were found not as expected. The vessel was released on Mar 11, 2013.
