Wed Aug 27 09:32:00 CEST 2025 Timsen

On the afternoon of Aug 24, 2025,, the KNRM Schiermonnikoog was called by the Coastguard Center in Den Helder for a medical evacuation from the 'Noordster'. The lifeboat 'Koning Willem I' departed urgently for the west side of the island, near the old embankment. Two crew members from the 'Koning Willem 1' boarded the 'Noordster' to provide first aid. The patient was then hoisted by a Coastguard helicopter. After the medevac, the rescuers provided aftercare to the remaining crew members. The lifeboat then returned to the station, and the 'Noordster' berthed in Lauwersoog. Report with photo: https://www.knrm.nl/nieuws/knrm-reddingstation-schiermonnikoog/medische-evacuatie

Noordster stuck off Noordpolderzijl

Fri May 24 11:55:26 CEST 2019 Timsen

On May 23, 2019, the "Noordster" got stuck in the Wadden Sea enroute from Lauwersoog to Noordpolderzijl. It has been a problem for years that the small port is silting up. Recently, dredging was again carried out by the Noorderzijlvest Water Board. The question was whether that has been sufficient to make the port accessible again. The "Noordster" is regularly taking mudflat runners from Lauwersoog to Rottumeroog. Doing this from Noordpolderzijl would make the cruise considerably shorter. In the past, the trips were from Noordpolderzijl. The municipality of Het Hogeland and Noorderzijlvest Water Board have indicated that the problem was receiving attention. But because of the changing climate, increasing costs and nature legislation, it was no longer possible to carry out maintenance in the same way as in the past. In addition, the water board is also investigating alternatives to find a structural solution for silting up. For example, a study was currently being carried out into the effects and feasibility of a construction too ensure that the channel can be flushed and brought to more depth. Skipper de Jonge, together with a number of other tidal enthusiasts, offered a manifesto to the municipality and the water board, calling for cooperation for a better solution to the sludge problem. The grounded ship was still stuck after an hour, and the water level dropped.
