Tanker took part in rescue operation

Wed Apr 06 21:35:25 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "New England" was involved in a rescue operation for the fishing vessel "Ocean Hunter" after it started taking on water coming from New Bedford in Massachusetts on Apr 6, 2016, 59 km off the coast of Yarmouth, and issued a Mayday call short past midnight. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax deployed a Hercules C-130 plane and a Cormorant helicopter of the 413 Squadron to assist the vessel as well as the tanker the tanker wich was the first to arrive, at 1:15 a.m., followed by the Cormorant at 1:40 a.m. and the "Westport" of the Canadian Coastguard at 1:55 a.m. The cutter’s crew passed a pump to the two-man crew to flush out seawater while it was being towed back to Meteghan.
