Engine failure on Elbe

Fri Mar 29 13:54:37 CET 2019 Timsen

The "Navios Unison" suffered an engine failure on the Elbe on March 29, 2019, at 8 a.m. at river km 648 off Hetlingen/Lühesand, having come from Hamburg at 6 a.m. and sailing downstream towards the Northsea, being bound to Rotterdam. Tugs got the ship under control, and it was turned around and proceeded with a reduced speed of five knots with tug escort towards Finkenwerder where it was moored at the pilings in pos. 53° 32.84' N 009° 49.96' E A second attempt to leave port at 3.30 p.m. failed as more engine trouble occurred during the turning manoever off the parking port. The tugs "VB Prompt", VB Perfect", "ZP Bulldog" and "Mooring Tug 4" took the ship back to the pilings in Finkenwerder where more repair work was started. With its draught of 13,2 meters the vessel can reach the Northsea only with the flood. The next chance would be on March 30 at 7 p.m. The ship finally left Hamburg on March 30 at 7.55 p.m. and headed to Rotterdam with an ETA as of March 31, 6.30 p.m. Report with photos: https://www.tageblatt.de/lokales/blaulicht_artikel,-Navios-Unison-Havarie-auf-der-Elbe-vor-Gruenendeich-_arid,1431691.html?fbclid=IwAR0fEDJSZUDd5HT7ira118ZjMR9FDjeHbwrSO2XJRyPOFPOlxkw4ob6paSk
