Several missing after lighter capsized

Thu Sep 12 11:53:58 CEST 2019 Timsen

The lighter vessel "Hera Parbat-8", carrying 1,050 tonnes of coal has sunk after encountering rough weather in the Bay of Bengal after suffering engine failure and a crack in the hull. The majority of its 12 crew members was missing after the ship capsized near the Sangu gas field on Sep 12, 2019, at 9.45 a.m. amid heavy rains. The "Hera Parbat-8" had started loading coal from the "Ionic Spirit" on Sep 10. But it could not leave the port on Sep 11 due to inclement weather. It eventually set sail early in the morning of Sep 12. The crew of another vessel, the "Mercantile-24" saw the men in the water but failed to rescue them due to rough sea. A few of them have since been rescued but most were still missing. The Coast Guard and the Navy were carrying out a search operation.
