Collision off Fort Kochi

On the evening of OCt 1, 2025, the 'MSC Silver II' was in collision with the fishing vessel 'Prathyasha' in the Arabian Sea off Fort Kochi. Nearby fishing boats hd alerted the cargo ship to the presence of another fishing boat in its path. Although the 'MSC Silver II' reduced its speed, it brushed against the 'Prathyasha',The crew of the fishing vessel, about 45 fishermen, sent a wireless signal to warn an approaching ship, but it was ignored. The ship changed course only after other fishing boats raised the alarm. Some fishermen jumping into the water to avoid injury. All were later confirmed safe. The fishing vessel suffered structural damage, and a large number of fishing nets were destroyed. No injuries or damage were reported on the 'MSC Silver II'. The relevant authorities have opened an investigation into the incident. The main shipping channel is located approximately 20 kilometres from the site of the collision. The reason for the cargo vessel navigating in that area was unclear. Houthis claimed attack on cargo ship

The Houthi movement has claimed an attack targetting the 'MSC Silver II” in the Gulf of Aden with naval missiles on Feb 20, 2022. The ship was en route from Colombo to Berbera. The 'MSC Silver II' was reportedly not damaged and arrived in the port at 6 a.m. UTC.
