Container ship suffered power loss

Thu Feb 03 12:08:33 CET 2022 Timsen

The 'CSL Santa Maria' with 19 mostly Ukrainian sailors on board lost power about 23 kilometers of the Shimane Prefecture on Japan's northwest coast due to bad weather in the night of Jan 30, 2022, at around midnight. The ship had a problem with its generator annd was in danger of grounding at the small island of Okinoshima amid strong winds. Japan's Eighth Regional Coast Guard responded to the incident and its tugs brought the ship under control. Japan Coast Guard emergency services also boarded the ship from a helicopter. The ship was now under tow and headed for repairs. The ship was en route from Los Angeles to Ningbo with around 2,000 containers on board.
